Tips for being successful at work: relationship building

So you’ve got a job now what? I don’t claim to be a professional nor do I claim to be super successful, these tips have just worked for me.

I’m a passionate person and I like things done right, but it’s not worth it if it requires you to burn a bridge at work.

Here are some of my tips:

1. Influence people, don’t stand at odds with them
2. Get to know people and do favors for them
3. Always stay connected with those that leave, even if you only have had small interactions with them
4. Build relationships with everyone in your direct reporting line
5. Be easy
6. Work smart and hard
7. Know when to mix work and pleasure and know when not to.
8. Choose your battles
9. Have someone read your important emails
10. When you’re off talk to someone you trust, don’t send an email about it, and sit on it for a day or a weekend. Sleep does wonders
